My homeschool planner got a little refresh for the upcoming year, including a new planner cover from the 2025 cover collection that came out this week 🕊️

Now that my planner is put together again, I feel like the homeschool year is closer than ever, and I’m getting really excited! We start at the end of June, always a little ahead of the majority, but ever so worth it when it comes to having breaks when the weather is more lovely for us.

We’ve been progressing steadily with our continuing math lessons and read-alouds as a family, so some might call what we do more of a year-round homeschool approach. Over the years, it’s the gentle continuation of some lessons that have truly given us a better start to a full homeschool schedule. In the coming weeks, we’ll reintroduce our songs, recitations, copywork, nature study, and artist study.

It’s a steady incline to the full feast, and Years 5 and 2 will be a rich one. ❤️

Timetables are one of my favorite tools for ordering our homeschool days and stewarding our time well.

Does it always go perfectly? Absolutely not. However, it still beats going into a new homeschool year with no idea or direction for how to deliver such a wide and varied feast of living ideas in our weeks. I cannot and will not just “wing it” and hope for the best if I can help it.

While I am not claiming to be excellent at timetables or scheduling, I’ve learned a few things along the way in our homeschool journey, so on the blog, I’ve shared my Ambleside Online Year 5 and Year 2 timetable (though, it’s more like a timeblock schedule these days).

I’ve also shared a glimpse into my process for coming to the schedule I have, as well as templates for anyone who feels overwhelmed in creating one themselves.

Towards the end of the blog, I’ve listed various blog articles and resources on my website for easy navigation on the topic of timetables.

So, how did the rest of our homeschool year turn out?

It certainly didn’t go exactly as I wanted, but as I’ve come to learn in my years of homeschooling, even as someone who is a chronic Type-A planner, I have to admit that it rarely ever goes as planned.

For the first time in our homeschool journey, we scaled back. Like, way back.

I could choose to believe that I failed in giving my children the full richness of Years 1 and 4. I could have chosen to carry on with our full schedule, adding a few more weeks to the homeschool year, as I’ve done a time or two before.

However, this year, it was the right thing to scale back. What I love about writing out our recaps at the end of the year is that it allows me time to truly reflect on the good, as well as the “bad,” or how we worked through the disorder of life (because we all face it).

Scaling back made space in our days for things I don’t believe can ever go on a transcript, but will go on in the hearts and souls of my children long after our homeschool days. 🕊️

I remember feeling so overwhelmed entering Year 2 with my oldest, but now as I prepare so for my youngest, I’m feeling more confident about the books and resources in our wide, living feast! I’m eager to revisit some of my favorites, and curious to see which will be my son’s from our Year 2.
