There’s always a plethora of Advent resources focused on our children, and I really do think it’s important to bring our children along in the anticipation and celebration of Christmas! I even wrote a blog article about some of the things I plan to use with my children this year. You can read about our December morning time plans here. However, in this article, I want to focus on Advent resources for mamas!
My ‘WHY’ to using Advent resources for myself
Our mothering hearts are just as important to nourish and come to a place of awe and rest as we reflect on the season at hand. Mothers are usually the ones who go over-drive during the Christmas season with cooking, cleaning, family photos, gift shopping, gift wrapping, school planning, family hosting, and alllllll the other many things.
Instead of allowing hustle-culture to seep into your home creating chaos and burdened hearts, take great delight in celebrating Christmas with a joyous heart, reflecting on the birth of The King.
Advent Resources I’m Using This Year
A Homeschool Mama’s Advent by Steph from storiesbeginathome.com
With just a short page a day, this 25-day devotional guide “focuses on scripture, based around the story of the birth of Christ, his living on earth, his death, and resurrection and what good news this is for us as moms and for all people! Each day focuses on a word such as Glory, Truth, Immanuel, and a scripture verse. At the end of each devotional, there are questions to ponder, journal about, and discuss with others.” You can find a free sample of her devotional guide right here, OR shop for the entire 25-day guide here!

Dwell: Celebrating the Arrival of Advent at Home
My hope is to wake up earlier than my normal, have my cup of coffee, or tea and curl up into my reading chair glowing with candlelight and spend time in these advent readings each morning, at a slow pace. If life happens and I run out of time in the early morning, I’m intentionally setting aside time during our afternoon rest time (after lunch) to pick up where I left off. I find Advent to be a perfect time to refocus on good habits of routine, rest, and delight in mother culture after what seems like a busy Autumn season.
Your time spent welcoming the advent season doesn’t have to look like mine, and it certainly can be even simpler than what I have planned here. I have a few other resources not listed in this article you can check out right here. My vision for the season is to deeply reflect on the birth of our Savior, which includes precious time alone in the Word and treasuring His truth over my life.
